About Us
You have just embarked on the southeast's leading music center designed for musicians from newborns to senior citizens. New School of Music is a chain of three music schools located in Buford, Dunwoody & Lilburn, Georgia. NSM was founded in 1997 by music educators Robert Trocina and Rick Smith, and has been providing state of the art music instruction and services, as well as high quality brand name instruments to musicians and educators for over 10 years. NSM provides everything from lessons, print music and accessories, to instrument sales, rentals and repairs.
Our History
New School of Music opened its first school in Tucker, GA in 1997. Later in 1997, NSM founded Greater Atlanta Center for Fine Arts, now the Gwinnett Youth Symphonies, Inc., a tax-exempt, 501 (c) (3), non-profit organization for the purpose of providing quality music ensembles to the Greater North Atlanta area. In March of 1999, NSM opened a second location in Buford, Georgia, just 2 miles from the Mall of Georgia. In 2000, New School of Music opened a music conservatory in the Draisen Edwards Music's Marietta and Anderson locations. In April of 2002, NSM’s Tucker location was moved to Lilburn where it partnered with DEMC to create the new 3800 square foot Lilburn Music Center, and in August of 2003, they partnered another music center in Dunwoody, Georgia. On September 15, 2005, New School of Music purchased the retail operations of the Lilburn and Dunwoody stores from DEMC and sold it's rights to the music conservatories at the Marietta and Anderson stores to DEMC. This transaction affords NSM the ability to better serve it's local communities by providing them with three full service music centers.
NSM's three music centers currently teach over 1600 students per week and provide high quality instruments, music and supplies to thousands of budding musicians each year. NSM's early childhood music division offers the Yamaha Music Education System and Kindermusik programs for students from birth to age 8. Gwinnett Youth Symphonies, Inc, a 501 (c) (3), non-profit organization, gives NSM students the opportunity to shine in performance groups such as the Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra.
New Lilburn School Partnership... Husband and wife, Adrian Norris and Carlene Hutchinson, have partnered with New School of Music owners, Robert Trocina and Rick Smith, at the Lilburn, GA school and retail facility. The partnership began taking shape in late 2007 and has since been finalized in preparation of a formal announcement of their ownership and partnership as of January 1, 2008!
