Born in New Jersey and
raised in Atlanta's arts and education communities, Mr.
Trocina is in his 11th season as conductor/music director of the
Gwinnett Community Symphony Orchestra
and serves as conductor/music director for Northeast Atlanta
Ballet's productions of The
Nutcracker, Giselle, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake
and Peter Pan.
Mr. Trocina is also co-owner/CEO of
New School of Music, which
he co-founded 1997.
As the founding conductor
of the GCSO, Mr. Trocina has developed a program which
includes the symphony orchestra, ballet orchestra, symphony
chorus, chamber orchestra, and a variety of chamber
ensembles. In 2007, Mr. Trocina established the Performing
Arts Center at Gwinnett Center as the orchestras’ primary
performance home. During his tenure, Robert has brought
many guest soloists and conductors to the ensemble;
including Momoko Yamato, Ralph Vatapek, Beth Newdome, Laurie
Marie Tossing, Susan Welty, Richard Deane, Bruce Kenney,
Thomas Witte, Peter Witte, and Monte Nichols. Also, Mr.
Trocina has collaborated with several Atlanta based
performance ensembles including the Northeast Atlanta
Ballet, Poulenc String Quartet, Atlanta Wind Symphony,
Georgia Perimeter College Wind Ensemble, and the Gwinnett
Community Band.
As owner/CEO of New
School of Music, Mr. Trocina has developed one of Atlanta’s
most successful private music conservatories. Founded in
1997, NSM currently has 3 Atlanta based locations, employees
over 80 music teachers, and has an enrollment of 1600
students.
Mr. Trocina's performance
experience has brought him to 38 United States, as well as
Canada, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, and Sweden. Mr.
Trocina has worked as a consultant and specialist for many
school music programs throughout the Atlanta area including
Pope and Sprayberry High Schools in Cobb County, Brookwood
and Parkview High Schools in Gwinnett County, and
Stockbridge High School in Clayton County. As a trumpet
instructor for 17 years, his students received honors such
as inclusion in Georgia's All State Band and Orchestra,
Georgia's Governors Honors Program, and college music
scholarships. Mr. Trocina has served as a clinician and
adjudicator throughout the southeast and was a member of the
Brass Instructional Staff for the Spirit Drum and Bugle
Corps for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Mr. Trocina also served
as Associate Conductor and Board Member of the Atlanta Wind
Symphony.
Mr. Trocina received his
Bachelor of Music Education degree from Kennesaw State
University and completed further studies at Georgia State
University, where he studied conducting under Dr. Thomas
Wubbenhorst and Trumpet under Mark Hughes. Other influential
teachers have included William Fred Scott, Stephen Winick,
Patricio Cobos, Michael Walters, Stephen Byess, and Mary
Beth Palmer. He holds memberships in the Music Educators'
National Conference, International Trumpet Guild, and
Georgia Music Educators' Association. He premiered the 1994
Lillehammer Olympic Fanfare and his recordings of Trumpet
Fanfares were broadcast in Atlanta's Fulton County Stadium
for the 1995-1996 Atlanta Braves seasons.
