NSM Faculty: Since 2021

Chelsea graduated from the University of North Georgia with a BA in Violin Performance while studying under Martha Gardner. During her time at UNG, she received an orchestra scholarship and has served 4 years as UNG Sinfonietta’s concertmaster. As for her next steps, Chelsea is planning on getting her education certification through UNG, and then plans to pursue her Master’s in Performance. Chelsea is a member of the Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra and performs with them throughout the year in their Masterworks concerts and in their shows with the Northeast Atlanta Ballet.

Chelsea Shankles first started taking violin lessons at the age of 6 at the New School of Music. In her middle school years, Chelsea played in her school’s advanced chamber ensemble and the Kendall Honor Orchestra. Later on, she joined the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony and the Gwinnett Symphony Youth Orchestra, and continued to play with them throughout high school. Chelsea graduated from Collins Hill High School in 2017 and had been a member of their Philharmonic orchestra and their Chamber orchestra. During her junior and senior years, Chelsea worked as an intern and later as an assistant teacher for the Crescendo Strings Academy of Music after school orchestra program. Since then, Chelsea has continued to teach lessons privately (which she thoroughly enjoys!).

As a teacher, Chelsea aims to inspire her students to have fun and see the joy in creating music. She is very flexible and is more than willing to tailor her teaching strategies to whatever suits each individual’s needs best.
