Farris Goodrum was born and raised in the Congo, in Africa, where his parents were mission workers, and that is where he began studying piano at the age of 7. He received a bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the University of West Georgia, and a master’s degree in Piano Pedagogy from Georgia State University. He also received a master’s degree in Christian Education from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. In 1982 he went to Brazil as a mission worker, with the Presbyterian Church (USA), to teach music and Christian education. Returning to the States with his family in 2016, he now teaches piano at the New School of Music in Lilburn.
